Definitive Kaiju Eiga List
Tumblr, I appeal to you! I’m trying to create a definitive list of every kaiju eiga film ever produced, for a potential Wiki project not unlike the Spaghetti Western Database. Now, I mean kaiju film by its very definition: a *Japanese produced* feature length or short film (theatrically released AND television films) featuring monsters as the (or a) main plot focus. I cannot emphasise Japanese produced enough. This means no YONGGARY, no REPTILICUS, no GORGO, no THE HOST, and certainly no American-made monster movies, period. This idea is for strictly kaiju films. I’ve drawn up a potential list which can be found here. I’ve also included selected straight sci-fi films, such as THE WAR IN SPACE and SAYONARA JUPITER, which have been heavily influenced by kaiju pictures (and feature monsters in small roles), and films that feature monsters in small but important roles, such as the 20TH CENTURY BOYS trilogy and PROPHECIES OF NOSTRADAMUS.
So basically at the moment what I’m appealing to Tumblr for is readers to look over the list, see if I’ve missed anything, if there’s anything that you think should be included, or anything that should be removed. This could be a fun project if things take off. I’m certainly not saying they will, but who knows! Thank you.
